VIKING LEGENDS

About Recent Entries

and today in the news Jun. 8th, 2008 @ 08:45 am
Another month has passed and another entry has come.
Or has it? the month that is? I'm so bad with time.

It is so bloody cold, my marrow is icicles - that can't be good. My house is a mess (nothing unusual there) I'm going to crank up Leo Sayer and do some cleaning woohoo nothing like ENJOYING the placement of mild detergents on the floor and scrubbing coz the shit doesn't work BUT it DOES save the environment.

I'm so broke.

haha but there is good news.

My stuff is going in a gallery next week for their opening launch. I'm so darn excited.
If anyone wants to come and drink champaigne with me I'd be delighted, but I don't think any of you live in Melbourne...:(

and horray for the Queens birthday long weekend, I can spend the extra time mowing the line and preening the house for my parents imminent arrival.

It's been a while May. 24th, 2008 @ 10:37 pm
I keep meaning to write in here, but I think about it whilst driving either to or from work, and then, by the time I actually sit at the computer, it is at the far reaches of my brain.

I work at a truck joint now, checking out the parts, putting them here putting them there blah blah blah really truly boring shite. And I don't even get to daydream because I'm counting counting all day, oh well, at least my times table is not so rusty anymore. Er reality truly is a bore. I have my radar searching for a new job.

Vlad got his forklift licence, so he'll probaly get a more fun job than me.

On the good news front, my olds are coming down for a couple of weeks in about a month, so I'm very excited about that. Me and dad are going powertool shopping so that I can make some frames and cut my own boards - JOY! That'll save me money that I earnt from my boring job so that I can put it on my mortgage instead and duel with the high interest rates and what not.

Man I've been having fun painting.

Here's a few of my latest.

oi Aussie coinage!

There's a few exhibitions coming up that I'm trying to get into, but they are 'invite only' so I probaly won't get into em, you know, me not being prestigious or however its spelt, enough. Oh well! One that I think that I will get into, is a showing at the Masquerade ball - yay that would be awesome.

I have All my paintings done for the masquerade ball (yay!)(oh actually, I have to finish off the castle painting but joy nearly!)
I have half finished a gig poster commission
I have done the sketches for the 3 angels commissions
I have an entry half ready for the Blake Exhibition (oh man if I got into this exhibition I think I'd DIE!)
I have no entries ready for the Port Art Exhibition (but I've thought about it - but have nothing still haha)
I have no entries ready for the Bayside Art Exhibition (but I know what I'm doing and yay I have the frames and canvas panels for it ready to go)
I have no entries ready for the Glen Waverly art exhibition (again though, I know what I'm doing)
NADA for the eutick memorial prize (again I know what I'm doing)
NADA
NADA
NADA
NADA
NADA for the other stuff of which I can't remember lol

Geez, what series can I do for the Port Art exhibition? I was going to do Steampunk, but I did two paintings, then had to wait so long for my canvases to arrive that I lost all motivation for the rest. My viking series keeps calling me but I'm keeping that until I have better skills.

HMMMMMMMM I look forward to brain storming it out actually. Need to get the commissions finished first though ARGH

it appears my pics didn't APPEAR so here's links if anyone can be bothered with em heeheheh

too tired to even think about starting Nano right now. Think I"ll sleep for a day first.

photos and cigarettes Aug. 22nd, 2007 @ 12:20 am
ARGH god help me I want a smoke. The craving would pass after a minute or two, but this last week they stay for hours, driving me crazy. I feel sorry for poor buggas who have to quit drugs, I would have to die with a needle in my vein because cigarettes are hard enough for me. I'M SO WEAK *sob*

But I haven't had any. I wish I could drown my cravings in chocolate, or cake, or even bread, but I haven't had that either.

It's like sleep deprivation - only I could end this insanity just by having a smoke or eating something bad. Insomnia you can't, you just have to hope that one day you'll become normal again.

Bloody torture. Man I'm a whinger.

JC

anyway excuse my little drama-queen attack there. I feel a little better now :D

I've been dabbling in photography again :D and I bought a new scanner so I was able to load some of my old pre-digital photos into the computer and much around with them. Here ye go if you'd like to have a look! http://vj-helm.deviantart.com/ I was quite happy with how they came out (they're just the ones on that page no need to look further into the gallery its rather boring lol). Also, there is a recent, most hideous picture of me (but it has my a.k.a on it so you're spared some of my nostradamusness) so there you go if you want to see who I am.

That is all!

things to do! Aug. 18th, 2007 @ 10:28 am
I'm so far behind in everything at the moment! Egads! So far behind that I need to write a list otherwise I'll just sit here with my mouth gaping, wondering where to start lol.

Laundry. Do the freakin laundry I got no undies left!

Vacuum and wash floors (they're not too bad but the cat is shedding fur)

Clean the kitchen. (it's getting funky)

Clean the bathrooms (woohoo I love cleaning bathrooms and now I have two lol)

Clear the table of ALL warhammer stuff, there is nowhere for the knights to sit and eat.

Well now that's not really that much. It's the following things that take TIME which is hard to divvy up.

In random order, who knows which is more important.

GARDEN. do possibly before dark ;) Attempt to remove weeds and put down mulching bark to thwart their return!

Do some more on the warhammer scenic background http://vj-helm.deviantart.com/art/Warhammer-40K-background-61928026 for when Vlads figurines are standing around being futile instead of attacking (eh saving the world from) Chaos or Tau etc.

Do a piggy painting for my niece. He's going to be floating through the air with the help of some purple balloons. Always believe your dreams can come true.

Finish rearranging the scenes in my story and either begin again from the beginning or keep going! Hopefully not for too much longer or it's going to be one mother of a book.

I went to god knows how many book stores yesterday looking for The Eyes of God. Bloody hell even Borders did not stock it. (I like to avoid Borders but sometimes I have to go in when desperation strikes). So I have to order it in from the local I guess. What the hey is wrong with people when the book stores can't stock John Marco? I hope it is because they are sold out because if they're not stocking him, they're depriving people of a legend. Yes, I am a huge Marco fan.

I'm reading Gemmells second book at the moment. The King Beyond the Gate. I'm enjoying it though am mildly amused at the fast and direct dialogue. I think it's possible Gemmell waited til the last minute and then realised the deadline was upon him. But still, the story is good, though it's mild lacklustre reminds me of Fiests 2nd book, and subsequent 'inbetween' books. On that note, I also think it's time to return to midkemia.

and now! Off to start the laundry before the sun disappears! What did you do to put your stamp on this world?
Current Location: vlads messy study
Current Music: ooh that reminds me! *puts some on*

» more goals n' stuff
Well I'm still not smoking. Yes, the urge pops up and I sit there waiting for any good reason to pop into my head to have JUST ONE SMOKE, but alas, there is none, so, well quite thankfully actually, I am still smoke-free.

A friend of mine started smoking yesterday. I guess there has to be balance in the universe lol.

So I have decided to add a couple of more goals to my list. Now that I feel that I can fight the urge to have a smoke on that rare ocassion that it pops up, I feel that I am strong enough to take on some good habits to replace this bad vice that I have *hopefully* kicked out the door once and for all, and once and for all KEEP the good habits, so that they become as normal for me to do as lighting up a cigarette was so second nature.

So I have decided to 99% give up wheat and sugar. Why 99% I hear you say? Or did you ask why wheat, first? I dunno I can't hear you. 99% of course is pretty obvious. If there's birthday cake I'm gonna have some, and if I want a scotch n' coke then I'm gonna have one. That is all.

Wheat gives me eczema, dandruff and hayfever. It makes me tired and makes my brain soggy. This is why wheat must go on the same list as the cigarettes. Plus the cigarettes are lonely. So no more sandwhiches, toast, spaghetti, pizza, lasagne.
And no more sugar. I've never had much sugar anyhoo. So right now I actually don't add sugar to anything, drink it, eat it or whatever (ok i'm sure there is hidden sugar somewhere but meh).

So anyway that is a glorious goal aint it? I think it'll be even harder than the cigarette thingo because mmmmmmmm I love wheat-based products lol!

And actually, because I'm feeling death-defying tonight, I'll add a second goal. What is eating healthier if you can't do a wee bit of excersize eh?

So from this day on, I shall walk my dog every day that I am at my house (well can't walk him if I'm not there) unless circumstances prevent me from doing so (like I get that awful sickness again)

YAY...feeling...overwhelmed lol. No feeling excited. ooooh better go to bed so I can get up before work and walk the dog lolol!

And to summarise for my own brain to ingest:

The not allowed list: cigarettes, wheat & sugar.

The to do list: walk ze dog

ah I shall update myself for myself so I can keep track of my bad self.

Coming up: more day to day goals!
» nothing much
Ah, sitting here with a full belly of garlic vegetables (not to mention garlic breath).

I haven't done a single bit of writing for the past week, and have enjoyed taking the time off from it. Entertained myself by doing a new pic: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/41471607/

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but my strawberry and capsicum seeds aren't sprouting. Maybe I'm just impatient? Sprout damn you sprout!

2 weeks until Nano, but more importantly, 2 weeks til I go to Qld to visit my family and friends YAY! Don't know how much writing I'll get done while I'm up there (none) but there will still be two weeks when I get home....wishful thinking that I'll get my 50K this year but hey! I'll do my best (unless I get..distracted).

Vlad has a job at the BP which is 5 minutes down the road, which I'm extremely jealous about as I have to drive 1 hour to get to mine - but thankfully I need to only go to mine 2-3 times a week to get a full pay - that's always a bonus. Though my ultimate dream is to do 40 hours in one foul swoop, but then you would probaly just spend the rest of the week recuperating.

I watched THE WORST movie EVA the other day, yes, it was even worse than The Leprechaun. I think it was called Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde or something along those lines (no not the old classic) and I can't believe I watched it until the end. Lucky I followed it with Over the Hedge man that was funny - but not as funny as Hercules Returns, or Erik the viking and other such films like that. The other night I had the urge to watch Blazing Saddles, though the urge was not strong enough to move my rear end from couch to car to video store. How bloody lazy am I! Lazy enough to have a mountain of dishes in the kitchen - but I mean - I just washed them! Dirty dishes really piss me off. Actually now I feel like doing them....off I go!

Okay I'm doing Nano. Egads. I'm there as Mutley, if anyone wants to buddy.

My dog successfully destroyed three of my cucumber plants thanks to him making a goat trail through them. He has been scolded and has learnt his lesson. Lucky he's so cute.

And man oh man what a beautiful day! I have a 4-day weekend can you believe it? I can anyway. I'm going to head to the national park bright and early Monday morning when the touros have gone.

My wild strawberry seeds arrived and are now hopefully beginning to germinate in their little seedling trays. I've never done fruit/vege from seeds before so I hope I'm doing everything right. I keep going out to check on them...dammit nature why must you take so long!
» smoking
Ah I tried to quit smoking today. I made it to 11.30am. I'll try again tomorrow, perhaps I'll make it to midday.

Now! Just have to finish weeding the darn vege garden and put my compost on it so that I can get seedlings at the market on Saturday and then yay, soon I'll have fresh veges! The nectarine and peach tree have flowered and now the wee fruits are growing. Yum can't wait to eat them. Me an Fletcher are going from our job down at the beach again this arvo, at low tide of course so we can splash through to all the sandbars and chase sea gulls and swans and penguins heheh.

Ah and more of the laugh-a-thon. I'm actually enjoying editing my story now.
» David Gemmell
I was going to write David Gemmell an email to tell him how much his writing influences my outlook on life, that we as average humans can rise above all the shit and make the world a better place. That we can give a little of our time to help another, and that morals that are often overlooked still do exist and even the littlest glimmer of hope can be found even in the most dire of times.

But he is dead. He died in July...I didn't know. I thought Gemmell would live forever, that he should live forever and continue to inspire us and help us believe in ourselves. But this is not so, like his great characters he too faced mortality, looked death in the face and succumbed to his icy touch. But like his characters who forged through their destiny and created legends for themselves by merely being themselves and not submitting, nor denying their true personality but built upon it by listening and learning, he will live on forever - in his books and in the actions of people he has given hope to.

My thoughts are with Gemmells family and friends and all those whom he effected. It is a sad time for storytellers everywhere.

I have so many different flowers in the garden, all blooming at once they look gorgeous. And my orchids are blooming too they look gorgeous inside, and some friends came over for a bbq and brought more flowers. Flowers everywhere yay for spring! 'cept lots of bees...need to get some tablets dammit. The sun is shining and a cool breeze is blowing, the water at the beach was cold but felt so nice on my feet. Ah dammit have to go to work today, atleast I got another 3 hours to enjoy the day :D

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BULLDOGS WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO
» (No Subject)
wow! I have two days off. I am officially excited, but the bastards made me do a 12 hour shift before just to prolong the advancing excitement. Now I'm just plain tired. But the good thing is that it's raining - which is great for sleeping - joy!

I've been having lots of fun, practicing drawing, dreaming about writing lol. Vlads been doing heaps of writing and made some great symphonies - fingers crossed for him he's so damn talented, well that's my opinion anyway. I had lots to say, but my brain has turned into putty and is leaking from all my cranial orifices. I might get some sleep because I feel the urge to write will be upon me some time soon ( like when I wake heh) So let's hope the creatures of the night keep still so I can get some rest.
» hellllooo
ah Monday glorious MOnday (well if it is if you have the day off, otherwise Monday is a bitch). I'm going to the art shop to buy another canvas and a new collar for Fletcher because he broke his when I put him on the chain yesterday when we were having a bbq so great was his desire to come sit at the table and drool over the food.

I finished Hells Daughters, if anyone is interested it's here

Well my day was interrupted by the arrival of my in-laws. Lucky I have nice in-laws though so it was okay. We had a bbq and Fletcher entertained us all with his jester-like antics. Been doing my painting it's nearly finished woo hoo I can't wait because I'm dying to start the next one. I need to buy a finer paintbrush, if I can find one - maybe I'll pluck a few hairs from my head instead, dammit, got used to zooming in on the computer when i'm doing pictures.

nothing much - tomorrow off! Shall spend the day painting being as I got all my other tasks done today woo hoo

ah 3 day weekend for me yay! My Saturday list is nearly complete, have done grocery shopping, cleaned up the house, walked the dog- and now time for painting. Tomorrow my list is laundry, walking the dog and weeding the vege garden, sealing up leaks on three aquariums and then....painting! Monday I haven't thought that far, probaly just collecting sea water. I also have to start a short story for a competition my mate told me about, she gave me the info yesterday. I told her she should enter just for the experience if nothing else but she has cold feet. I know what I'm going to write I just don't know how to do it.

I keep having dreams about hell, probaly because the painting I'm working on is called Hells Daughters and that and the mix of fumes from the oil paints is contributing - because I've searched my consciounce and found nothing.

I officially have the first two weeks of November off YAY home to see my parents in Qld. Hopefully get some fishing and snorkelling in at the islands. It will be my sisters birthday too she'll be 30. and I will finally get to see my beautiful niece! hooray.

My eyes doing a wierd thing, got a blurry zigzag through it. Usually happens when I don't wear my glasses enough, guess I better put them on for computer stuff and painting. That will be annoying.

and now! off to have a shower and paint! Dang Dang DANG!

I had a great weekend - a four day weekend joy. Felt like a mini holiday. My friend came over on Thursday morning, she's moving interstate in a few weeks so it was great to spend time with her. We went walking in the national park a few minutes behind us, and on the beach in front of us, went to the saturday markets, cooked up great food and drank great wine and played board games and discussed and debated. t'was fine indeed. I will miss her so much - since moving down here I haven't found anybody else to relate to so much, oh, 'cepting Vlad he is great bar he doesn't seek to 'expore nature' and all that jazz. That's okay i have my doggy to come with me - Dogs are allowed in the national park between sunrise and 9am.

title or description
This was a bunch of rocks on the beach of the national park. The tide was coming in. It was a really nice sunny day but the photo came out a little gloomy.

Watched a few DVDs this weekend. Aliens of the Deep - pretty good and spectacular scenery; AlienGods - crap I fell asleep; Abyss - very good though a couple of stupid bits but I definately would watch again; Return to Oz - of course it was good! :D Just have 20 000 leagues under the sea to watch - maybe tonight. Bit of a water theme you might have noticed.

We went to the Book Barn and it was having a sale. Picked up my ordered copy of 'Legend' by David Gemmel, also bought 'The Elder Gods' by Terry and Leigh Brooks and 'Washington and Caesar' by Christopher Cameron which looks pretty good and out of the genre I usually read in. Bout the American civil war which I don't know much about, but his writing looks intriguing. I actually organised the bookshelf, am missing a few of my favourite books that I leant out to work colleagues from my old job and never got back :( My fault I should have chased them up. We seem to have acquired a whole shelf of Raymond Fiest books lol. I have about 6 unread fiction books and about the same in non-fiction to read before I am allowing myself to blow more money at the bookstore. Next is to organise our Cd & dvd collection and try and find/locate all those missing ones. That will be a big job. Then I have to try and get Vlad to not destroy the organisation!

Dad polished up my baby grand because mum advertised it in the papers properly this week. I hope someone wants to buy it but I'm also so sad to sell it. But it's just taking up space in their home and I don't think it would travel the 2400km good to bring it down here - plus I have no room for it. I will miss playing it though - hell I already do. I told them to sell my guitars that are still up there as well, but not the piano accordian I'd like to bring that down, or my old typewriter that they got me when I was about 10 or something so I could type up my stories lol. I want to use that as an ornament when one day I get my own office. Man I've still got so much stuff up there. I'll have to drive up for a holiday one year and bring all my books and stuff down. Then I'll need to add another bookshelf to our office - where I don't know there's no more wall space lol with two big desks already and a keyboard stack against the couch. I think I'll take the couch out it won't get used anymore. I designed my dream office the other day. pentagram shape with the wider wall having a lil fire place and all the swords on it, the others with built in bookshelves - okay so it's more of a lil library not an office, maybe two offices joining onto it would be nice. One for me and one for Vlad. Oh and of course two lush chairs in the library with footstalls and and little table and drink stand Lol now I'm dreaming. Vlad wants a secret chamber leading off from one of the bookshelves lol how cool. maybe it could lead to our offices.

*pipe dream*

Back to reality...I have laundry to finish - always laundry.

It's been raining most of the last couple of days and nights, a really fresh rain. Great writing weather! I've been working on my plotholes and trying to beat some of my minor characters into submission. Vlad's been doing some writing too - though his is really good and professional sounding unlike mine hee hee. I bought a Clive Barker book the other day, haven't read him for a while, though none of the bookshops down here stock the latest John Marco trilogy which is depressing. I'll have to get them in Frankston or Melbourne.

Three of my orchid spikes are about to open, I can't wait to see what colour they are. I brought them inside near my laptop - I like to write with a bit of greenage around.

I don't have work tonight - joy! Though I am enjoying it alot more these days despite it being so incredibly monotomous. My shifts are coinciding with my mates so there's lots of good banter to keep me going through the night when my minds too tired to conjure up fantastical things.

I brought a wierd pencil the other day. One of those ones that boasts 'never have to sharpen'. I was intrigued. Turns out that you never do have to sharpen it! In fact there is a message on the packet actually warning against sharpening it. Turns out it is liquid graphite, which is pretty cool, draws like a pen which is great for me - and never have I seen a graphite that rubs out so beautifully. So I'm happy with that :D

We watched March of the Emperor Penguins the other day (or whatever it was called). I quite enjoyed it though I thought the doco in the special features section was even better than the movie. They really are amazing birds, and so dedicated! The scenery was also spectacular and now I think Vlad understands my obsession with Antartica and why I desperately want to go down there.
So when the weather warms up Vlad and I are going to go to Phillip Island to see the fairy penguins. We're also going to go horse riding 'cause I think it might help Vlad with that aspect of his writing - and I haven't been since I moved to Victoria. I miss it.

wow I'm waffling!

it's 4.30am and I'm about to delve into some writing after many hours of procrastination. I'm a little nervous, had one of my little writing revelations the other day and am going to apply it, hope it makes a difference.

Fletcher is laying in front of the heater. Me an Vlad gave him a bath and now he has a nice doggy smell instead of the usual putrid odour he usually has. He's so cute - the heater is his best mate!

Family guy wasn't on tonight. Very depressing. I will have to put on the family guy DVD I guess and have my hit.

We have to go into Melbourne this weekend for a family members birthday,so that'll be fun considering I'm on a diet and there'll be heaps of yummo food. But I've been on it for about 6 weeks so I'm not going to stuff it up now, plus I feel heaps better for it :D I think Fletcher and I will go for a frollick on the beach in the morning and chase some seagulls.

What really disturbs my week, is going to work on Mondays. Though this is an age old problem, the monday morning blues, and has been around since Mr Caveman begged Mrs Caveman that he didn't have to go out and spear some flesh-eating, bone armoured mammal a hundred times his size, and Mrs Caveman said sure so long as she didn't have to go out and collect berries and roots.

But, like the caveman family, I will starve if I don't go to work. It's an unfortunate option, if only we didn't need so much nutrition - really! eating three times a day? sheesh.

Anyway I got back into the groove of my story, I mean RIGHT back. The old excitement is back, I even couldn't sleep last night because my mind was working through untying sub-plots and puttying up major holes. And of them there are many! So as soon as I finish this entry I'm going back to bed until the very last minute that I have to leave for work, which will be earlier because it's raining and my fellow drivers slow down to a crawl with any hint of moisture touching the road.

mmm sweet sleeeeeeep
